In late 2012 I was commissioned by the Cancer Council of Tasmania to design the welcome table and chairs for their new Northern Cancer Support Centre in Launceston, Tasmania.
The new centre is the first of its kind in Australia and will set a new standard for the delivery of support networks for families living with cancer.
The 4.6 meter long welcome table accommodates both large groups and smaller, more intimate gatherings through its unique shape. The eight welcome chairs were developed through extensive focus groups with community members and testing of several prototypes prior to the final construction. Materials were limited to solid Tasmanian-oak, full aniline leather and latex foam.
I would like to thank both the Cancer Council of Tasmanian for their vision and support and Arts@Work for their assistance.
